FAQ: ACKS II Treasure Tome

What are the requirements and limitations for commissioned items and illustrations?

Commissioned items and illustrations cannot be defamatory, obscene, unlawful, or otherwise likely to cause the game designer to be cancelled, deplatformed by Kickstarter, divorced by his wife, raided by the FBI, or stoned to death by an angry mob. The items and art need to be plausible with the game’s implicit setting, but the setting is broad enough to accommodate most items ranging from the Bronze Age to the Dark Ages as well as sword-and-planet scientific sorcery. The items need to follow the ACKS II rules and cannot “break the game” or destroy the game world.

How general or detailed do I need to be if I commission items and illustrations?

You can be as detailed or general as you prefer. For the item, you can build the item using the item creation rules so it meets your exact specifications or just ask for “a cool sword like Stormbringer” or anything in between. For the art, you can write a detailed art order with references or just request “a muscular barbarian in a loincloth with a magic axe” or anything in between. It’s up to you!

If I commission an item with art, does my art have to relate to my item?

Yes, it does! This is the Treasure Tome so the magic items are the centerpiece of the book. That said, the larger the art you commission, the more opportunity there is to show off other elements in the art. A 1/8 page illustration of a shield will likely just be the shield, but a full-page illustration of a shield could be the hero carrying the shield into battle with his comrades against a dragon.

What is the difference between a "rare", "very rare", and "legendary" Item?

The categories are based on the cost of building the item using the ACKS II magic item creation rules. A rare item can cost up to 25,000gp; a very rare item can cost up to 100,000gp; and a legendary item can cost up to 1,500,000gp.

What is the "esoteric ritual" included in the Cosmarch reward?

“Ritual spells” are extremely powerful spells that exceed the limits of 1st - 6th level magic. Ritual magic includes spells that grant wishes, cause castles to fly across the sky, cataclysmically destroy 500-square-mile regions, and so on.

“Esoteric spells” are spells with unique capabilities that are outside the scope of the spell creation guidelines.

Therefore an “esoteric ritual” is an incredibly powerful spell with a scope that is outside the ordinary limits of the game rules. Wish is the most-well known esoteric ritual in D20 fantasy.

I missed the ACKS Imperial Imprint Kickstarter. Can I buy in now?

Yes! There’s three ways you can do so.

First, you can select the Explorer reward tier. That will get you the ACKS II Revised Rulebook, Judges Journal, and Monstrous Manual in PDF, as well as the new ACKS II Treasure Tome in PDF. This is the easiest way to get into ACKS II.

Second, you can select any reward tier you prefer, and then add either the Digital Collection or the Deluxe Collection as an Add-On. The Digital Collection includes the ACKS II Revised Rulebook, Judges Journal, and Monstrous Manual in PDF. The Deluxe Collection includes the ACKS II Revised Rulebook, Judges Journal, and Monstrous Manual in both Hardcover and PDF plus a physical and PDF copy of the ACKS II Judges Screen.

Third, you can pick and choose from the individual items and add the ones you want to your order as an Add-On. Prices are slightly higher than if you select a bundle, though.

If I purchase ACKS II Add-Ons, when will they arrive?

For digital purchases, the ACKS II PDs will then be sent to you immediately when we fund. The ACKS II Treasure Tome PDF will as an art-free playtest PDF within the month of funding, with the final coming 6-8 months later.

For physical purchases, the default will be for everything to be shipped in about 12 months. However, if you decide you want your ACKS II books expedited to you, we will work with you to make that happen. It will increase your overall shipping cost, however, so if you’re patient then just waiting for all the books is a less-expensive option. It’s up to you!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
